Award winning Producer and Singer/Songwriter Ellen Fang is the All-American multicultural face of today. The talented International Super Idol Winner, a contest held by ETTV (Eastern Broadcasting Corporation) one of the largest media corporations in Asia, is creating the latest buzz around town. Despite her young age, Ellen’s mature jazzy voice defines originality, conviction and power, along with her vibrant stage presence; truly making her an extraordinary entertainer.
Born in the small town of Calistoga, California, Ellen's future was set into motion when she moved to San Francisco with her family at the age of 9. Taking advantage of San Francisco's abundant resources Ellen immersed herself in the arts, training in: ballet, jazz, hip hop and ballroom dance at a few of San Francisco's most highly acclaimed dance companies. In high school she attended the San Francisco School of the Arts, one of the nation's best performing arts high schools, focusing on both acting and voice. With her talent becoming apparent, Ellen chose to continue her path in the arts and was accepted into the vocal music department of San Francisco's prestigious Conservatory of Music. There she refined her vocal technique, studying: Italian, French and German arias.
Ellen's stage experience includes many life-changing performances including her first singing competition in 2003 with the national Chinese language newspaper, The World Journal, where she earned second place. "I feel like I've gained a lot of insight as an artist from this experience," Ellen says with confidence. As a result of the contest publicity, Ellen was offered a recording contract from EMI Taiwan in early 2004. Despite the honor and excitement of the opportunity, Ellen opted to pass, her heart set on landing a recording deal in the United States.
Beyond her singing abilities, Ellen has gained recognition for her acting as well. Most recently, she worked on several national commercials including a new Coca-Cola campaign that has aired alongside the TV show, “American Idol.”
The series of successes Ellen has met reinforce her incredible potential. One great sign indicating her fate for stardom occurred recently when she won Eastern Broadcasting Corporation’s ETTV International Super Idol competition in January of 2005. After winning the local competition in San Francisco, and competing against other semi-finalists from New York and Los Angeles in the U.S. Finals, Ellen headed to Taiwan to compete against finalists from five other countries for this impressive title. "The contest was tough, but it gave me a chance to truly show what I can do in front of a live audience,” Ellen reflects. After a week of grueling rehearsals, Ellen came away with the grand prize and the winner of the first ever ETTV International Super Idol contest. “This was definitely an honor," Ellen shares. "Performing is about getting totally lost in the music and pushing yourself to the edge in every way you can imagine. I love thoroughly immersing myself in music, and I wanted to capture that intensity in every song and every note that I sing."
In the fall of 2010 with all her most recent success in Taiwan, from appearances on primetime sitcoms and performing throughout China, Ellen also had two separate projects win the prestigious Golden Melody Awards. Following her win she decided it was time to move back to the US and be closer to her family. Ellen now resides in San Francisco trying to soak up experience while applying all that she has learned overseas. As Ellen moves closer to reaching her ultimate goal, she's excited about her options and will keep working as new doors open.
